ETHEL LEONA SCHIMMING
Ethel L. Schimming 89, Hope, Kansas, died Monday November 17,2008 at the Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. She was born April 4, 1919 at Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of John and Eula (Derrick) Rakestraw. She grew to womanhood in the rural Abilene area, attended the local schools, and graduated from Dickinson County High School with the class of 1937. She was united in marriage with Herbert P. Schimming and they later divorced. She had been a Hope, Kansas, resident since 1939. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, Kansas, and the Rebekah Circle. She taught school at the New Basel School for two years and worked as a cook and waitress at the Hope Café for more than twenty years. Surviving are one daughter, Yvonne Lee, El Dorado, Kansas, one sister Evelyn Stillwagon, Abilene, Kansas, a sister-in-law Betty Kline, Newton, Kansas, and other relatives. A son Larry D. Schimming preceded her in death in 1969. Funeral services will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, Kansas, Friday November 21, 2008 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Hope Cemetery, Hope, Kansas. Friends may call at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, Hope Kansas through Thursday evening. The family of Ethel L. Schimming suggests that friends may contribute to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in her memory. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

PHYLLIS JEAN WUTHNOW
Phyllis Jean Wuthnow 64, former Hope, Kansas, resident died Sunday November 2, 2008 at the Medical City Hospital, Dallas, Texas, from complications of pancreatitis. She was born July 28, 1944 at Herington, Kansas, the daughter of Roland and LaVerna (Larsen) Wuthnow. She grew to womanhood in the Hope, Kansas, area, attended the local schools and graduated from Hope High School with the class of 1962. She attended Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina, and Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas, She never married. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, and the Dallas Bead society and enjoyed wearing unusual necklaces. She was a secretary and had worked for the Aetna Life & Casualty Company, Hartford, CT., Atlantic Richfield Oil Company, and NJ and Associates in Dallas. Surviving are one sister Joy Schell, and husband Leo, Manhattan, Kansas, a nephew Douglas Schell and wife Laurie and their daughters, Claire and Ada, Independence, MO., niece Laura Graber and husband Jack and their son Noah and daughter Hannah, Littleton, Colorado, and other relatives. A memorial service will be held at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, Hope, Kansas, Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Bill Sexton officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hope Cemetery. The family of Phyllis Jean Wuthnow suggests that friends may contribute to the Hope Community Education Endowment Association, 112 N Main, Hope, Kansas 67451 in her memory. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
