LILLIAN ARLENE "TOOTIE" DIEHL
Arlene "Tootie" Diehl 97, Abilene, Kansas, died Tuesday March 2, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. She was born August 28, 1912 at Supthen Mill, Kansas, the daughter of George and Sophie (Frahm) Williams. She attended the Willowdale Grade School, moved to Chapman, Kansas, with her parents and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1931. On September 28, 1933 she was united in marriage with Harvey R. Diehl in Portis, Kansas. They lived and farmed near Enterprise, Kansas, all their married life. She was a homemaker and drove a school bus for the Chapman School District for eighteen years prior to retiring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Enterprise, Kansas, and a member of the Pleasant Hill EHU and the Homemakers Extension Council. Surviving are one daughter Dona May Myers, and husband Monte, Abilene, Kansas, two sons, Lyle E. Diehl and wife Lois, Enterprise, Kansas, and Harvey R. Diehl Jr. and wife Jane, Valley Center, Kansas, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey on March 27, 2007, her parents, two brothers, Ivan, and Carl and a sister Vera Quinn. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Enterprise, Kansas, Saturday March 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Darren Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery rural Enterprise. The family will receive friends at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, from 7-8 PM Friday evening where friends may call until time of service. The family of Arlene Diehl suggests friends may contribute to the First Baptist Church, Enterprise, Kansas, in her memory. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

FLORENCE H. ADAMS FICK
Florence H. Fick 92, Salina, Kansas, died Thursday February 25, 2010 at her home. She was born December 2, 1917 at Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Francis (Swift) Adams. She moved to Abilene, Kansas as a child, attended the local schools and Abilene High School. On April 29, 1943 she was united in marriage with Gilbert E. Fick in Hope, Kansas. She was a homemaker and they lived and farmed in Dickinson County. Following retirement they moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas to make their home. They returned to Kansas and made their home in Salina, Kansas in 1990. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, rural Abilene. Surviving are four sons, Marvin Fick and wife SheryL, Newport, North Carolina, John Fick and wife Mary, Kipp, Kansas, Neldon Fick and wife Karen M. , Ellsworth, Kansas, and Mark Fick and friend Darleta, Great Bend, Kansas, three daughters, Karen Wenger and husband Ronald, Denver, Colorado, Lynette Snyder and husband Jim, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Marlene Frederick and husband Richard, Salina, Kansas, one sister, GaIL Nordman, Charles City, Iowa, a brother-in-law, Wayne Fick, Overland Park, Kansas, 19 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and other relatives.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert on March 31, 1998, her parents, and two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, Monday March 1, 2010 at 10:30 AM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family of Florence Fick suggests that friends may contribute to the Ebenezer Baptist Church in her memory. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

NORMA B. MCDOWELL
Norma B. McDowell 84, Salina, Kansas, died Wednesday February 24, 2010 at the Kenwood View Nursing Home, Salina, Kansas. She was born July 3, 1925 in Beaver County, Oklahoma, the daughter of William J. and Dorothy C. (Ellwanger) Barngrover. She moved with her parents to McPherson, Kansas, as a child, attended the local schools and graduated from McPherson High School with the class of 1943. She married Eldon "Mac" McDowell and they made their home in California. They returned to Kipp, Kansas, to make their home and run the family dairy farm. They moved to Wichita, Kansas, where they raised Appaloosa Horses. She moved to Salina and she had been a resident of Kenwood View since 2005. She was a Stanley Products Dealer, a community leader for the Kipp Wide Awake 4-H Club, and was manager of the Johnstown Towers, Salina, Kansas. She raised her niece Patricia Wine Howie as her daughter. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Howie and husband Stan, Salina, Kansas, grandchildren Lisa Howie Carlson and husband Wes, Salina, Kansas, and Steven Wayne Howie and wife Dawn, Centennial, Colorado, 4 great grandchildren, Ashley and Alyssa Carlson, Salina, Kansas, and Maiah and Bryan Howie, Centennial, Colorado, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Donald "Barney" Barngrover, and two sisters, Reba Barngrover Wine and Phyllis Zubillaga. Funeral services will be held at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, Monday March 1, 2010 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Burial will be in the Banner Cemetery, Elmo, Kansas. Friends may call at the funeral home until time of service. The family of Norma B. McDowell suggests that friends may contribute to the Alzheimer’s disease Foundation or the American Cancer Society in her memory. Contributions may be left at the funeral home. |
